Procure Smart

The electric vehicle tipping point is here; is your business ready?

There was a time when electric vehicles felt like a future consideration, something to keep an eye on. The infrastructure was something businesses knew they would need, but not something that demanded immediate action. That’s changed.

Global electric vehicle sales hit 1.8 million units in May 2026, with Europe continuing to drive growth as adoption increases. It’s a shift that is already changing how businesses operate, particularly when it comes to fleets, sites and customer expectations. (Source)

Too many businesses are still viewing EV charging as an operational add‑on rather than a strategic asset. At Procure Smart, we see EV charging infrastructure as one of the clearest opportunities for businesses to take control of cost, compliance and commercial advantage in one go.

Fleets are transitioning, employees are switching to electric, customers increasingly expect charging points, and yet many organisations are still hesitating. Questions around capital investment, grid capacity, technology choice and futureproofing can quickly become blockers. Add in the noise of a fast‑moving market, and it is easy to see why projects stall, but there are consequences to inaction.

Without the right charging infrastructure in place, businesses risk limiting fleet efficiency, missing new revenue streams, and falling behind competitors who are already embedding EV capability into their sites and customer offerings.

From April 2026, the Workplace Charging Scheme has been extended for a final year, offering up to £500 per socket and covering up to 75% of installation costs, with a cap of 40 sockets per business. The deadline now sits at 31 March 2027, creating a defined window for organisations to access funding support. At the same time, several funding schemes have already closed; Government support is becoming more finite. (Source)

EV charging is at the crossroads of cost management, sustainability, and commercial growth. With the right approach, it becomes an enabler rather than an expense. It supports fleet electrification, reduces reliance on volatile fuel markets and enhances employee and customer experience.

More importantly, it opens the door to new revenue opportunities, from monetised charging access to integrated energy strategies that link on‑site generation, storage and consumption.

This is where our approach at Procure Smart is deliberately different. We do not treat EV charging as a standalone product. We treat it as part of a wider energy ecosystem, designed around your business objectives. That means focusing on outcomes, ensuring every project delivers measurable value.

Through our renewables offering, we take an end‑to‑end approach. We simplify the decision‑making process, provide clear and transparent routes to market and ensure that every solution is aligned with your business.

The transition to electric vehicles is not slowing down. The market data proves that. The policy landscape supports it. What remains within your control is how your business responds.
