The team at Procure Smart have today visited Sunderland Food Bank with festive food of all kinds worth almost £700 to support local people in crisis this Christmas.
The Sunderland Foodbank, founded by local churches and community groups, works towards addressing hunger and poverty in the local area. It opened in November 2017 after it was seen that there was a real need to support those in crisis in the Sunderland area. Since opening, it has received support from the Council and local businesses and supermarkets across the region and uses the goods it receives to supply collection points across Wearside.
The Charity Committee at Procure Smart have coordinated donations across their Sunderland and Manchester sites, as well as from their remote staff and those working from Dubai. The final donation weighed in at 153KG, which is equivalent to 191 meals.
Victoria Walton, Head of People, said: “I couldn’t be prouder of the team and their efforts in raising these valuable funds for Sunderland Food Bank. Colleagues across the entire company have joined together in support of the community, and what a result we have achieved. From selection boxes to cupboard staples, Christmas treats and essentials, we tried to cover all bases so that people and families can enjoy this festive season.”
Simone Green, Operations Manager at Sunderland Food Bank, said: “One-in-five people live below the poverty line, so food banks like ours are a lifeline to families and people in crisis, especially at this time of year. Donations like this are invaluable and will help us on our way to supporting as many people in crisis as we can this winter.”
